Tiny Talk Tuesday

Well, it happened. We were watching the Robots movie (cute movie) and Joseph asked THE QUESTION. "Are armpit farts for real?!" ~sigh~ Yes dear boy, they are. For the next 10 minutes he tried with all of his might to make a farting noise with his pits. Male bonding time will be had tonight I'm sure. Uncle Brian will be so proud.

One of Joseph's favorite things to say recently is "I'd say that the tank is full" This is said after a burp. A thanks goes out to the Garfield movie for that one. We have not seen this movie, but there is a preview for it on a movie that we do watch.
I'm thinking maybe we need to cut back on the amount of tv we watch. :)

A beautiful Sunday

Today I had the rare opportunity to sit and listen to worship. Nehemiah was asleep in my arms. My singing was causing him to stir (can't blame him, I can't carry a tune). It felt weird to sit at first. I'm used to standing during worship, and of course singing along. As everyone else sang some of my favorite songs I got to actually listen to the words. It's funny how you can sing something dozens of times and never really listen to the words. It was amazing, to say the least. It got me thinking about all of the people in that one room, all singing praises to our God and King. What about the churches down the road? They were lifting up their praises as well. And in other states. And other countries. My thoughts turned from worship to prayer. What if we all prayed, together, agreeing with our words. The power that must have in Heaven. I have the picture of things shaking, shackles breaking, mountains moving... "Can you hear it? ...listen to our song. It's turning into a Holy Roar!"

Let's talk Halloween

When Roger and I first started having kids we had a discussion about Halloween. I went trick-or-treating as a kid. I loved it. Dressing up. Party's. CANDY. Well he grew up with out the candy infested "holiday". They actually made it a point to leave the house on trick-or-treat night. We decided to forgo the candy laden day, and save dress up for other times of play. Fine with me. Last year (or was it 2 years ago?) we decided to let Joseph hand out some candy, get a glimpse of what the day is about. Hopefully we didn't scar him for life. The princess', policemen, clowns... they were cute. Joseph enjoyed plopping some treats into their bag. Witches, goblins, "scream" costumes...freaked him out. We only stayed out for a short while. We brought him inside and had a conversation about Halloween. It was good for him (I think) to see that, and to see why we don't participate in the days events.
I was at the store yesterday. I saw a little boy looking a little frightened. My first thought was that he had lost his Mommy. He wasn't standing really near anyone. I looked around and disturbingly found this little boy's father smiling and laughing with a skeleton head that moves its mouth and talks. He was motioning for his son to come closer and check it out. I wanted to throw up. Seriously? You want your 2 year old to check that horribly disgusting thing out?! I hear that the next generation is fearless. There is only more and more crime. If we raise our children to think that evil things are funny, to think crime tv (CSI...) is worth watching, to think that dressing up like a bloody vampire is acceptable, then what road are we leading them down? It saddens me to think that there are children out there this Halloween who are dressing up like this. Lord please watch over them. Protect their hearts from evil. God let their parents see Your light in the darkness.
I wish the day wasn't so dark. I wish people didn't dress up like the devil. I wish it wasn't a day for practical jokes gone wild.
Anyhew... thats my Halloween talk. And just so I don't start a debate over trick-or-treating let me just add this - it is a choice each and every family needs to make for themselves. I'm not going to be disgusted with you if you are trick or treating, just don't show up at my door dressed in anything bloody, evil, or carrying a weapon.
Ok, really. I'm done now.

Some Video of my Boys

This is Joseph's memory verse for our continuing study of the fruits of the spirit. In case you can't understand him he is saying "The fruit of the light consists, in all goodness, righteousness, and truth. Ephesians 5:9"

I love the way he stumbles across the word righteousness. No matter how many times we practice that word it just doesn't want to come out right! :) It is a big word. I love that he remembers all of the verses that he's learned in this study.

Nehemiah is talking more and more every day. We had borrowed "The Backyardigans" from the library... and these are the words he picked up from that show. He's too cute.

Cute little guy

Just a cute little something Joseph said yesterday at lunch. I was making pb&j for lunch (a meal fit for a king!). I had just finished spreading the peanut butter and I had started with the jam. Joseph very sweetly said "Mommy, can you put a little love in my lunch?" :) I sometimes make a heart in the peanut butter - just using the knife. Before I plopped the jam side on he wanted to make sure he got some love in there. I thought it was adorable.

Hannah's 1 year pictures

Our recent trip to Picture People for some fun 1 year pictures of Hannah...

There should have been A LOT more but Hannah would NOT sit still. She screamed and ran away. I bribed with all I could think of. This is what we got. I'm happy. :)

Musical Beds?

It's time once again for musical beds. The game that makes us as parents crazy to even attempt a normal bedtime routine.

Nehemiah isn't sleeping well. He's staying up until 11 or 12 at night. He's waking up screaming with his little heart pounding and his head dripping with sweat. I'm not sure exactly what is going on - sounds a little like night terrors but he is awake when we go in to check on him, so I don't know. We think it started right after I started babysitting... so this is my last week for that. Anyway, with his nightly screaming and up till midnight parties we decided to try him in his big boy bed in Joseph's room. Maybe sleeping with Joseph would help? Worth a shot. After church today Roger got everything set up. Their tiny room is packed. He thought it was silly to sleep in that room. I put him in bed and he started jumping. To him thats all beds are for! :) I'm hoping he'll change his mind and actually decide to sleep. :)

Wedding gift, round #1 and #2

At WalMart you can get a your photo added to a gift card for 88cents. I thought this would make a cute gift for Roger's sister. Amanda and her fiance had registered at WalMart, and everything was bought (um, they only chose 11 items) so gift card made sense to me. The picture just would have been cute. Yeah, as I mentioned in a previous post, I would have rather poked an eye out. Here are some of the pics I got of my naughty little bunch.

They got cash.

And Nehemiah decided that he could smile without keeling over.

Wal Mart Etiquette

Ok, I realize Wal-Mart has most everything. I realize that it is a big box store with "low" prices. I realize there is one in most every town across the US. But seriously people, get dressed before you shop. Can I please take a minute to go over some Wal-Mart etiquette? (Why yes Valerie, you may. This is your blog. Rant away)

  • please don't shop in your pajamas - and fuzzy slippers are meant for home, not shopping.
  • also - unless you are a painter by profession, leave the clothes covered in paint at home. I don't need to know the color of every room in your house just by looking at you
  • unless you want me staring at your butt, words written across it - inappropriate
  • if my children are sleeping when I enter the store, do not take this as the opportune time to tell me how cute they are. They will be frightened if they wake up with a strange face centimeters away from their eyeballs.
  • likewise if they are awake and screaming (because we are at walmart AGAIN) don't come to give me advice. don't come to calm them down. don't touch them and tell them to be good. I am aware they are screaming. they'll get over it. I'm managing just fine without you. thankyou
  • this last point needs more attention, as most people seem to want to touch my children. Maybe you have no 'personal bubble' but my kids do. It's at least 2ft in diameter. That means you need to stay back. Don't pinch cheeks. Don't tousle hair. Don't beep their nose. Don't tickle.
  • If you do see me struggling with a run-a-way, you may stand in childs path to slow him down, but really, I rather you not pick him up. You are a stranger. Giving hugs and saying "obey Mommy" yeah, so not helping.
  • Just because you wear an employee name tag doesn't make you exempt from any of the above mentioned rules.
  • if I have all 3 of my kids, by myself, and a cart full of groceries, do NOT ask me if you can cut in front of me in the check out line. I don't care if you have 1 item. Find another line chump.
To sum things up, let's not save good etiquette for the family holiday meal. Walmart deserves to see a good side of us too.

Pictures

I think poking out an eye would be more fun than trying to get a good picture of all 3 kids.

Silly Joseph

Had to get these in writing before I forget...

We were leaving the library last night... in a pouring down rain. We hop in the car and Joseph says "I'm scared God is going to flood the whole earth" :) No honey, remember the rainbow? God won't do that ever again. "oh, ok"

I was cutting his hair tonight. He had gotten something in it yesterday (not the reason for cutting his hair) and he told me "Don't cut this part Mommy (putting his fingers on the chunk with something in it) I think it's my brain."

This is what happens when we skip a nap

Believe it or not, this was the same day... the same meal! Those kiddos were TIRED.

The Fair

Joseph just couldn't wait for the day to come when I said "today we're going to go on rides at the fair!" Thursday was "the day" It's designated "kiddie day" All rides are half the amount of tickets. I however did not plan enough....Roger was sick after tent city...we payed full price by the time we got there.

$7.50 for 2 kids...

to go on 1 ride...

for 2 minutes.....

It's not priceless!! It was stinkin' $7.50!!! ;) They loved it though. I had to literally drag Nehemiah off kicking and screaming "No again AGAIN!!" He actually kicked the man that came around to help him off the ride. I apologized profusely. He said, with a laugh, "That happens to me more than once, every day." Now there is a job I wouldn't want. Joseph is so good. He had a lot of fun. And didn't throw any fits when it was time to go. I think there will be some begging for Chuck E Cheeses soon though.

You can't see him in this picture, but there is a little boy behind my boys. He was persistent in ringing the fire bell. Nehemiah didn't like all of the noise and turned around to yell at the kid. Not understanding Nehemiah's gibberish he asked Joseph, "Is he speaking Spanish?" Joseph replied, "No!! He wants you to stop ringing the bell!" (we need to work on being polite, I know)

Tent City ~ Part 2

Ok, so they also have tractors.

Tent City

There is a spot at the fair called "Tent City" Other than there being a number of tents I don't know why it's called that. It's where all of the animals are. Nehemiah of course was in Heaven. He LOVES animals.

Here he was looking at some rabbits. He liked poking his fingers in the cage.

Here he is trying to climb in with the pigs. I caught him just in time, he was trying to swing his leg over the top. (Not in the picture, moments after)

That's my Uncle Paul pointing his finger at the pig. Nehemiah had tried to climb (again) and a pig came running over to sniff his toes. Paul thought that was cool and was playing with a pig nose.

This is Joseph saying "Mommy, you're making me stand WAY to close to that cow!" He enjoyed seeing all of the animals too, but he won't touch them like Nehemiah will.

A rude awakening

A few days ago, after waking up from nap, I opened the curtains and was greeted by this. I can't wait for Halloween to be over. Really. No one needs to see this every day.

Only Nehemiah

What?! What do you use those holes for?!
